INGREDIENT DEEP DIVE

Ginger (Zingiber Officinale)
Soothe, warm, relieve

Ginger is deeply warming and is often used to stimulate movement and circulation in the body. Ginger sits beautifully in 01 The Period Blend as a support for the stagnation, pain, cramping and nausea that are common while bleeding. Ginger is traditionally used when there is general weakness, so during the menstrual week, when energy is subdued and restful, ginger will help to warm the body and invigorate without wearing us down.

Rooibos (Aspalathus Linearis)
Protect, nourish, replenish

The Rooibos plant comes from the Western Cape region of South Africa, and is also called red bush tea. The green leaves are fermented / oxidised after harvesting, which creates the flavour and red colour of the dried leaves. Rooibos is nutritive, with small amounts of trace minerals like magnesium, iron, zinc, copper and fluoride making it gently nourishing during our bleed phase, when people can feel depleted and lower in energy. Rooibos offers a protective, health-affirming impulse in a phase when rest and replenishment are key. It is energetically soft, cool, and sweet.

Cinnamon Myrtle (Backhousia Myrtifolia)
Inspire clarify, strength, freshen

Cinnamon Myrtle grows naturally in subtropical rainforests in Australia, and holds the beautiful aromatic intensity of the Myrtle family. The essential oils are antimicrobial and have the association of vibrant freshness. Cinnamon myrtle lends a spirit of warmth and protection. It’s said that Aboriginal people used Cinnamon myrtle to ease digestive complaints like bloating, abdominal pain and reflux.

Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris)
Balance, calm, enhance dreaming

Mugwort supports healthy digestion, calming and strengthening the nervous system and easing menstrual issues — three areas that are intimately linked and impact each other when out of balance. Mugwort supports the contractions of the uterus during bleeding to be rhythmic and productive, rather than arrhythmic and painful. Mugwort is supportive for menstrual issues that stem from an overrun nervous system, and a lifestyle lacking rest and reflection.

Rose Petals (Rosa spp.)
Nurture, comfort, inspire femininity

Rose is a flower of the heart; soothing, comforting, nurturing. Rose in the period phase supports us into the rest of bleeding, lulling us into relaxation and release. Rose has traditionally been used for its calming and gently uplifting properties, and can aid the flat energy and mood that can come with a period. During this phase, when people can feel hormonally flat, Rose lends an uplifting feminine energy. Rose’s serene and encouraging essence comes through as a tea, but also as aromatherapy through the smell of the dry and brewing tea blend, and the colour with the deep, dark pinks and purples. Rose opens and soothes the heart, and reminds us of the strength in softness.
