Rosehip (Rosa canina)
Support, strengthen, protect
Rosehips come from Rosa canina, also called Wild Rose or Dog Rose. The hips are the fruit of the divine Rose, that have been dried and have a candy-like sour, sweetness to their core. Rosehips have traditionally been seen to offer incredible nourishment and immune support; full of vitamin C and antioxidants that strengthen, fortify and protect. In this blend, they bring another layer of vibrancy, clarity and fortifying support to this ovulatory phase, while sweetly bridging the transition into the downward hormonal shift of the PMS phase.
Honeybush (Cyclopia intermedia)
Inspire creativity, passion, sweetness
Honeybush - a native of South Africa, closely related to Rooibos - receives its name from the honey-like scent of its yellow flowers. Honeybush is slightly sweeter than Rooibos, which is used in the period blend, at the opposite phase of the cycle, and it brings sweetness and inner warmth, with antioxidant vibrancy for this peak phase. Antioxidants sweep up the oxidation our cells can experience, and bring clarity and invigoration to our bodies.
Schisandra (Schisandra chinensis)
Inspire movement, vitality, sureness
Schisandra is a vibrant, bright red berry that grows along a beautiful green vine. It is a traditional Chinese medicine, Wu wei zi, and is called the five flavour fruit. It has all five constitutional flavours in the berry; sweet, sour, salty, bitter and pungent, so it is a herb that suits and balances many people in their various constitutional signatures. Schisandra works in three very important areas for the ovulation phase; as a liver tonic, for focus, and for energy. Schisandra is adaptogenic, and helps to build resilience — physical, mental, emotional and spiritual strength. Schisandra supports you to develop a strong and vibrant inner core, with a beautiful brightness that comes through it’s red ripe round fruit.
Schisandra is a liver tonic, protective and regenerative. In the Ovulation phase, when hormone levels are at their highest, Schisandra helps to keep hormones balanced and cycling beautifully and efficiently through the liver, to avoid accumulation, stagnation, and to help detoxify excess. Supporting the liver in this phase helps to ease symptoms that arise because of liver stagnation and the higher circulating hormones. It is an important herb to protect the body and liver from the environmental and lifestyle impacts of chemicals and toxins present in everyday life that can lead to hormone and cycle imbalance.
Chamomile (Matricaria recutita)
Ease tension, soothe, calm
Chamomile is often known as a herb for aiding sleep, but during the day its warm, dry and bitter qualities bring it into the grounding and stabilising realm, especially when it comes to sensitivity. Chamomile smoothes edges, soothes vulnerability and gives generously to bolstering any kind of sensitivity holding us back from fully embracing the vibrancy of the ovulation phase. Chamomile acts in this blend in the background as the helper to continue to open to creative potential and visibility. Chamomile also helps us give and nurture others freely.
In a medicinal sense Chamomile has been used to soothe the tummy and brings heat into the body to drive out any cold and wet or damp symptoms, like runny noses, allergies, skin changes, slow healing and digestive upset. For people whose symptoms or imbalance come through in the peak hormonal phase of ovulation, Chamomile soothes irritation and warms up the body, supporting pain sensitivity, cramping, emotional sensitivity and digestive discomfort. Chamomile encourages trust and fullness in the opening.
Hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa)
Bring vibrance, clarity, antioxidants
The Hibiscus Sabdariffa flower is a pink or white colour with a deep red centre. Once the flower has bloomed, wilted and dropped the vibrant calyx remains. Plants and herbs with intense and striking colouring are full of antioxidants and plant compounds that bring life and protection to cells (like blueberries, raspberries and acai). Hibiscus is a sister plant to Rosehips in its medicinal action, bringing nourishment and protection to the heart, blood and vessels through its rich antioxidants and brightening qualities. Hibiscus’s colour and qualities draw you out into this phase like the sun invites us to open and expand.
In India, Hibiscus is the flower of the Hindu goddess Kali, the dark mother that oversees death and time, is full of feminine power and destroys evil forces. Hibiscus’s colour and energy is bold, confident and enlivening, and invites people to stand in creative flow, with their energy and attention turned outward, creating harmony around us through action and showing up.
